THIS IS SPORTS TASK FORCE
POWERED BY AAJA
STF promotes diversity within the sports industry through its community of dedicated media professionals by providing training and networking opportunities to its students and professional members. We offer mentoring programs, networking events, and scholarships as well as professional online and digital training programs. STF forges relationships among leading AAPI professionals in the media community, students and entry-level professionals. The group also works with college and university journalism and media programs to help foster the development of those interested in a future in the sports journalism/media industry. STF programs, members and community serve journalists, production crew, marketing and all others who are committed to telling and sharing the stories within the sports culture, lifestyle and industry.
Taking it to Task
Hong’s official title is coordinating producer of ESPN’s enterprise unit, but her job description is circuitous and complicated – just like her road to the Worldwide Leader in Sports
A Message from STF Chair, Carolyn Hong
Welcome to the AAJA Sports Task Force! Sports play an important role in our lives beyond just entertainment. They mirror everyday triumphs and struggles and teach life lessons. They help communities heal from tragedies. Sports also bring to the forefront issues like concussion dangers, sexual orientation, domestic violence and child abuse. Now, more than ever, our roles as sports journalists/media professionals are impactful beyond our own columns, articles, blogs, photos, radio broadcasts, sportscasts and documentaries. Our perspectives as Asian American sports journalists/media professionals are critical in a constantly evolving, multi-cultural society. This is why the AAJA Sports Task Force has been created. We will exchange ideas and experiences and create a networking outlet so that we may continue to build a strong pipeline of Asian American sports media professionals who will carry on the message of sports relevance for years to come. Please join me in making this commitment to help ensure a long and successful future for the STF!
